From research and development to market launch and the lifespan of a polymer product, we are your reliable partner for all material testing needs.
We support your research and development with a wide range of chemical and physical tests on raw materials or prototypes. We are also happy to assist you with any material-related inquiries.
We support you in process development, such as process validation or the development of testing procedures for quality control. Additionally, as an accredited material testing laboratory, we are fully equipped to conduct quality inspections for you.
Do you need a test for a component or a semi-finished product from your production? Are you looking for the cause of a fault or production problem? Or do you need certification for your product? Then you've come to the right place.
The material you purchased doesn’t meet your expectations, or a customer has complained about your product? The optical or mechanical properties do not comply with the specified requirements? As an accredited material testing laboratory, we are your go-to source for an objective and impartial assessment.
We are also happy to assist if you need objective test data for your marketing efforts.
Beyond the services we offer to our customers, our staff also take part in internal and external research projects, allowing them to constantly broaden their horizons.
You benefit from this ongoing knowledge growth in the form of quick and creative solutions to your challenges.
Here, we present a selection of case studies from the polymers sector that we work on, to give you an impression of our expertise in this exciting field.
If you have any questions, our experts are always available to assist you.
Leachable and extractable chemicals from polymer materials can be crucial factors for the safety of the environment and the health of humans and animals. It is not always possible to avoid the use of additives, as these substances often make specific product properties achievable. The RMS Foundation, as an accredited analytical laboratory, has a wide range of analytical capabilities to detect and identify such leachable and extractable compounds, even at very low concentrations.
In the presence of oxygen, irradiated UHMWPE shows poor long-term resistance to oxidation (brittleness). By adding small amounts of Vitamin E (an antioxidant), free radicals are neutralized. This stabilizes the material by preventing oxidative damage. The image shows an oxidation index depth profile according to ASTM F2102 of an explant made from conventional UHMWPE (not stabilized), with significant oxidation of the material. The oxidation index describes the ratio of the absorption peak at 1720 cm⁻¹, normalized with the reference peak at 1370 cm⁻¹. The greatest damage occurred at a depth of 0.4 mm, as the compressive stresses are highest below the articulation surface.
Using FTIR microscopy, even the smallest polymer particles (e.g., microplastics) can be analyzed and identified. The particles are washed off the sample, collected on a filter, and then their polymer material is identified through the characteristic FTIR spectrum of the respective polymer, providing information about the type of particle contamination.
Unknown fibers on the surface of a component were identified as nylon (polyamide 66) using the FT-IR microscope. This identification helped trace their origin and resolve the contamination issue.
Dynamic Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is used to study the thermal properties of plastics. Typical parameters include the melting range, glass transition temperature, and crystallization behavior.
Medical devices, food products, and other items are often hermetically sealed in polymer packaging. Various standardized tests exist to evaluate the quality and seal integrity of the seams or the entire packaging.
Discuss your concerns with our experts. They will be happy to help you determine the best course of action.
You are welcome to drop off your samples. Just give us a quick call beforehand and we’ll take care of them. Depending on our workload, we’ll process them right away. If it's extremely urgent, we also offer express services.
We usually process smaller orders within 10 working days (within the limits of our technical and human resources). Contact us for clarification of prioritized processing for an additional charge. For larger projects, we will be happy to propose a customized schedule.
We usually communicate the test results to you in the form of a test certificate. If desired, we can prepare a more detailed reportfor you in which we can statistically process and interpret the results and/or make recommendations. We will be happy to send you both with a digital signature.
As an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, confidentiality is our top priority. Further information on how we handle your data can be found in our General Terms and Conditions. Please contact us regarding additional protective measures for particularly sensitive data.
Since 1995, the services of our materials testing laboratory have been accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025. Our QM system is ISO 9001 certified.
