    Cutting properties of milling tools

Our new milling test setup enables the quantification of the wear resistance of side-cutting tools. The test bench uses a low-friction cable mechanism to press the material to be machined laterally against the tool with a defined force. A laser distance sensor precisely measures the travel distance, which, together with time measurement, allows for an accurate calculation of the cutting speed of the tool. This highly reproducible test allows for the comparison of different milling tools in terms of performance and service life.

PMI analysis of metallic and non-metallic materials

In PMI analysis (Positive Material Identification), the goal is to determine whether a material or component has the required chemical composition. The focus of this process is not on the exact chemical composition, but rather on verifying that the correct material is being used. The analysis can be conducted either in the laboratory or on-site with a portable device.

Dynamic testing – small loads and optical deformation tracking

Our latest electrodynamic testing machines enable fatigue tests with calibrated loads starting at 4 N. In combination with the DIC method (Digital Image Correlation), this opens up the world of optical deformation tracking of specific locations, even during dynamic tests.

Which questions are frequently asked about our services?

How do I find a suitable test method for my specific issue?

Discuss your concerns with our experts. They will be happy to help you determine the best course of action.

How many samples should be tested?
This depends on the specific question: A comprehensive test ideally consists of 3 samples from 3 different production batches. In case of issues, we recommend comparing 3 “bad samples” with 3 “good samples.” This also provides a certain level of statistical reliability.
I'm not sure what exactly my problem is or how to phrase it. Am I still in the right place at RMS?
Absolutely! We'll go over the issues with you and collaborate to get to the underlying causes. Once a potential solution is identified, we’ll be happy to conduct the necessary testing.
What does the RMS Foundation need in order to conduct an analysis?
Typically, we require the sample material and a binding test order. This can be a formal order based on a quotation or even an informal e-mail.
What do the services of the RMS Foundation cost?
The nature and number of samples can have a major influence on the test costs. We will be happy to provide you with a quote tailored to your specific inquiry.
I urgently need an analysis. Can I bring my samples to the RMS Foundation right away?

You are welcome to drop off your samples. Just give us a quick call beforehand and we’ll take care of them. Depending on our workload, we’ll process them right away. If it's extremely urgent, we also offer express services.

    Are the services offered accredited?
Yes, our services are validated and accredited in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025. If a required service has not yet been validated, we can easily validate it for you.
How long does it take until I receive my results?

We usually process smaller orders within 10 working days (within the limits of our technical and human resources). Contact us for clarification of prioritized processing for an additional charge. For larger projects, we will be happy to propose a customized schedule.

How do I get my results?

We usually communicate the test results to you in the form of a test certificate. If desired, we can prepare a more detailed report for you in which we can statistically process and interpret the results and/or make recommendations. We will be happy to send you both with a digital signature.

How does the RMS Foundation ensure the confidentiality of my data?

As an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, confidentiality is our top priority. Further information on how we handle your data can be found in our General Terms and Conditions. Please contact us regarding additional protective measures for particularly sensitive data.
