Cutting properties of drills and milling tools

To investigate the cutting properties and wear behavior of drills and milling tools, two test benches developed in-house are used, which allow the penetration force of the tool into the test specimen to be precisely adjusted.

According to which standards do we test?

Whenever possible, we carry out our testing services in accordance with or based on these international standards. However, we are also happy to find a solution for your specific problem.

  • YY 91064

Which devices do we use?

The service offered is carried out with the following equipment:
  • Laser distance sensor OptoNCDT-ILD 1402 from Micro-Epsilon (max. measurable distance: 50 mm)
  • Various measuring amplifiers, including the HBM MX410B
  • Picomax 21-M tooling machine from Fehlmann (50 - 6300 rpm)

For which material tests do we use this method?

We use the test benches with customer-specific measurement technology for the following material tests, among others:

What you should know about this method?

How is the test usually carried out?

The Chinese standard YY 91064 provides a rough guideline. However, the sample material to be cut, the applied load and the speed often vary greatly between customer projects.

How many measured variables can be recorded simultaneously in these tests?

The maximum number of sensors that can be used simultaneously is currently eight. However, the number can also be lower depending on the measurement frequency or other factors.

Are these test methods also offered validated?

In principle, such special solutions can also be validated. In most cases, however, the effort involved is high, so that no validation is carried out. Nevertheless, the sensors are calibrated either according to DaKKs or according to the manufacturer's factory standard.
